Has anyone successfully removed the residue left from rug tape from their hardwood floors without damaging the finish?
I have read conflicting reports of GooGone damaging the finish, so I don't want to risk it.
Is there something else that will work?

Without knowing what your floors have (wax, verithane, poly) I would recommend testing in an area not visible but to few.

i used this stuff called goo be gone . it is used to remove the adhesive left by tape such as duct tape . give it a try in a small spot

I've used regular ronson lighter fluid, but test first.

WD-40 is a peaceful adhesive remover with low VOCs, Kat2014. Mineral oil (baby oil) often works very well, too. Let the product sit for a minute or so and scrape with a plastic scraper or fingernail if needed.

It gets under and lifts the adhesive. Clean the oily residue off with warm water and dish soap.

If you wish to shine the floor up again where the tape dulled the finish, 4/0 steel wool works great. Rottenstone will bring the shine even higher.

Of course, test an inconspicuous spot to make sure your finish isn't shellac. (Water turns shellac white.)

Avoid acetone or nail polish remover (diluted acetone). They wreck a lot of finishes.
